A healthy network is invisible: everything just works. When it starts causing daily friction, it is usually trying to tell you something. Watch for these six signs.
1. WiFi that slows down at busy times
If the connection is fine early in the morning but crawls by mid-day, your access points may be overloaded or poorly placed.
2. Dropped or choppy VoIP calls
Phone calls are very sensitive to network congestion. Without proper configuration, a large download can make calls break up.
3. Devices that randomly disconnect
Printers, card readers or workstations that drop off the network are often a sign of cabling problems, IP conflicts or outdated equipment.
4. Guests on the same network as your data
Visitors should use a separate guest network, isolated from your computers and business systems.
5. Equipment nobody has updated in years
Routers, switches and firewalls need security updates just like computers. Old firmware is a common entry point for attacks.
6. Nobody knows how it is set up
If there is no documentation and only one person (who may no longer work with you) knows the passwords, it is time for an audit.
